Taser used during arrest of delivery driver in Amsterdam

13 sources

A police officer used a Taser while arresting a delivery driver in Amsterdam's Runstraat after the driver’s van blocked the street during unloading. Police said the driver refused requests to move the van, would not cooperate with identification or arrest, and briefly grabbed the officer’s wrist after being warned twice that a Taser could be used. Footage shows the driver holding the officer’s wrist briefly before the officer pulled free and used the Taser; other footage begins later and does not show the preceding escalation, if any. Witnesses and shopkeepers said they had not seen aggressive behaviour and considered the Taser unnecessary. The driver was taken to a police station, received three fines and was released. Police are reviewing whether the use of force was necessary and proportionate. GLS said the driver works for a transport partner and that it is in contact with that partner about his welfare.

Court hearing in Beverwijk gold-office robbery case

1 source

A 64-year-old branch manager was stabbed during a robbery at a gold exchange office on Breestraat in Beverwijk on 22 April and later died in hospital. Jayden S., who is now 20, was arrested the same day and is suspected of stabbing him with a knife while seeking money, gold and silver. He denies neither the reported remorse nor that the prosecution suspects him; he was not present at the latest hearing and conveyed through his lawyer that he regretted what happened and that it had never been his intention. At a hearing in Haarlem, the prosecution said cooperation with the psychological investigation had been difficult. Most of the investigation is complete, but S. is still expected to be examined at the Pieter Baan Center at the end of November, after which the assessment will be awaited. The defense called his placement there a misunderstanding but said a thorough examination could be beneficial. The next pro forma hearing is scheduled for 11 January.
