Bosnia and Herzegovina elections

◆4 sources

Nationalist parties made gains in Bosnia and Herzegovina's elections, with voting often following ethnic lines. Milorad Dodik, the leader of the Bosnian Serbs, was described as a major winner despite not being on the ballot. Candidates backed by Dodik for the country's three-member presidency and for the Republika Srpska both received more than half of the vote. The outcome points to continued difficulty in forming and running the country's already complex system of government, while offering little prospect of progress toward EU membership.

Investigation into Flydubai copilot attack

◆6 sources

Australian authorities are investigating the links between Australia and the Flydubai copilot who attacked the aircraft commander on a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv the previous week. They are examining whether the Omani man was radicalised while studying in Australia between 2015 and 2017; a single report said he received a student visa in 2014 and that it was withdrawn in 2019 because he was no longer studying. Reports said the copilot had previously been banned from flying by an employer in Oman. They also reported that he attacked or stabbed his colleague in an apparent attempt to crash the aircraft at Ben Gurion Airport. One report said he had discussed such a plan before joining the airline. Separately, regional officials reportedly said that the United Arab Emirates had shared the flight's passenger and crew lists with Israel before departure.

Damen’s claim over cancelled German frigate order

The Dutch shipbuilder Damen is seeking nearly €4.7 billion from the German government after it cancelled an order for new frigates earlier this year. Germany considers the damages claim unfounded. Damen also objects to Germany’s direct award of an order for four frigates to TKMS, arguing that the contract should have been put out to European tender.
