Lelystad withdraws proposal for caravan locations

Lelystad alderman Emiel van der Herberg withdrew a proposal to investigate a lawn on the Bosweg as a location for 16 caravans, after the municipal council criticized the plan. The original proposal also examined the Houttuinen area in Beukenhof for a total of 38 caravans. The college of mayor and aldermen will return with a revised proposal covering the Bosweg, Zuiderhage, De Akkers and other possible locations. The council had asked for more clarity on how the locations were selected and had raised concerns about the impact on allotment gardens and existing residents near the Vaartweg trailer site.

The college will continue work on an area vision for Houttuinen and says it will involve local residents and other stakeholders in the process. Parties on the council also called for Zuiderhage and De Akkers to be considered, while some argued that the Bosweg was inconsistent with an earlier decision against housing in the Noordzoom area. A follow-up study of the Bosweg had been budgeted at €107,000, but the proposal was withdrawn before a final decision on the locations was requested.

Plans for new caravan sites in Lelystad

1 source

Allotment associations in Lelystad are concerned about municipal plans to investigate new caravan sites on the Bosweg and at Houttuinen. The Bosweg plan is the most concrete and could involve 16 mobile homes, potentially requiring part of the popular gardens managed by allotment association ’t Karvel to disappear. At Houttuinen, the municipality is still examining several options for 22 sites. Lelystad currently has one caravan site on Vaartweg, with eight places. Caravan residents want additional sites so their children can also remain in Lelystad. Two petitions have been launched against the plans: ’t Karvel has collected more than 1,000 signatures against the possible Bosweg site, while an online petition to preserve the Houttuinen allotments has received more than 1,200 signatures.

At a council meeting in Lelystad, a majority agreed to lower the required number of parking spaces per home in future residential areas. Mooi Lelystad, the VVD, Forum voor Democratie and the PVV warned that households with more than one car could cause parking nuisance in their neighbourhoods. The municipality said research it commissioned found that many existing residential areas have more parking spaces than needed based on the number of cars per resident. The city centre already had a lower standard for new construction.
