Lelystad council approves lower parking standard for new housing

◆1 source

At a council meeting in Lelystad, a majority agreed to lower the required number of parking spaces per home in future residential areas. Mooi Lelystad, the VVD, Forum voor Democratie and the PVV warned that households with more than one car could cause parking nuisance in their neighbourhoods. The municipality said research it commissioned found that many existing residential areas have more parking spaces than needed based on the number of cars per resident. The city centre already had a lower standard for new construction.

Residents oppose memorial site in Zilverpark

Residents of the Zilverparkkade in Lelystad asked the municipality to reconsider the planned memorial site in Zilverpark. They fear the monument could become a gathering place and worsen existing nuisance. Ronald Bogaard presented their concerns at a city council meeting on Tuesday evening. The city council selected the location in 2024, while residents of the nearby Muntstraat and Neringweg had previously objected, prompting the municipality to begin a new procedure. According to Bogaard, Zilverparkkade residents were not involved in the preliminary stage, apart from a general presentation by then-alderman Kruis in 2024. He said they learned about the proposal through the media. The municipality’s procedure is ongoing, and the residents want the site reviewed.
