New study into the Lelyline

4 sources

The cabinet asked former De Nederlandsche Bank president Klaas Knot and an advisory committee to re-examine how the proposed Lelyline railway between Lelystad and Groningen could be built. The review will consider alternative routes and construction methods, funding options including pension funds and the European Investment Bank, and the line’s potential contribution to development in the northern Netherlands. The cabinet said it has no funds to follow Knot’s earlier proposal to reserve €400 million annually. The reports put the estimated construction cost at €15 billion. Remaining funds previously reserved for the project will stay available, but construction has not been approved pending the committee’s recommendations, which are expected by the summer of the following year.
