Variable autumn weather expected in Flevoland

Flevoland is expected to have a few dry and relatively quiet October days at the start of the week, with moderate easterly to southeasterly winds and temperatures around the seasonal average. Monday afternoon is forecast to reach about 14 degrees, while Tuesday is expected to be slightly cooler. The previous Sunday was reported to have been the coolest midday period of the autumn so far, at barely 12 degrees, although the first ground frost had not yet occurred.

The weather is expected to become increasingly unsettled from Tuesday evening, with rain or drizzle, cloud and showers spreading across the province. Showers could include thunderstorms on Thursday, while Friday is forecast to bring an active low-pressure area, heavier showers at times and strong winds that could affect traffic. The unsettled autumn weather is expected to continue into the weekend, and the first autumn storm of the year may develop later in the week.

The fifth Alluminous light art festival opened in Almere around the Weerwater despite rain and strong wind. Eighteen light artworks are displayed along a route of about 5.5 kilometres, including illuminated windmills, the Weerwater Bridge, a 150-metre colour-changing installation and an aquarium featuring holograms of fish. Visitors can walk the route, which is open daily from 19:00 to 22:30 until 18 October; bicycle access is no longer available, and a shuttle boat is offered for part of the route. Music has a larger role in this edition. On Thursday, the Almere duo BLIKOPENER, Jolle Roelofs and Eelco van Zanten, performed at the Utopia Bostheater. The festival is currently continuing in dry conditions after a wet opening, with music performances and restaurants along the route.
