Truck weight limit set for the Houtribdijk

West Frisian transport companies were preparing for a 15-tonne maximum weight for heavy traffic on the Houtribdijk between Enkhuizen and Lelystad, starting the following day. Rijkswaterstaat said the restriction was necessary because of the poor condition of bridges in the dike. Companies said they would have to reroute via the Afsluitdijk or via Amsterdam and Almere, increasing congestion and costs.

The West Frisian Group of Companies estimated that the measure would cause affected businesses at least €100,000 in additional direct costs per day, including lost revenue, extra staff and logistical problems. Its chairman, Hans-Peter Baars, said the group was discussing short-term options with Rijkswaterstaat, including allowing some empty return journeys, and that compensation had been promised by the ministry. Companies were also making some additional trips before the restriction took effect, although they said only part of the work could be brought forward.
