Terneuzen seeks clarity on proposed nuclear power plants

The mayor and aldermen of Terneuzen wrote to State Secretary De Bat for Climate and Green Growth, saying that it is taking too long to establish whether two nuclear power plants will be built within the municipality. They urged the government to act quickly and also called for clarity about what is being opposed.

The municipal executive said its patience is running out. The reported letter did not establish whether the plants will ultimately be located in Terneuzen.

Call for direction over Moerdijk energy plans

4 sources

Residents, municipal political parties and other organisations in Moerdijk called on Prime Minister Rob Jetten to take charge of planning new energy projects, including Powerport. In an open letter, they asked for an integrated plan and for the national government to leave the area alone for at least two generations afterwards. They said uncertainty has persisted, while promised participation with villages has not taken place. The planned Powerport decision was postponed after State Secretary Jo-Annes de Bat said he would investigate whether the project could require less space than the previously planned 450 hectares. An earlier scenario would have meant the disappearance of the village of Moerdijk, but that is now uncertain. The cabinet said De Bat already leads the file and coordinates the ministries involved, and that it expects to provide more information shortly.
