Break-up of Strong Local Flevoland cooperation

US Noordoostpolder ended its cooperation with Strong Local Flevoland after losing confidence in its board, citing the selection of 74-year-old founder Wout Jansen as lead candidate for the 2027 Provincial Council elections. Jansen was elected by 14 votes to five. US raised concerns because Jansen’s wife, Marianne van de Watering, was secretary of the nomination committee. Van de Watering said she did not lead interviews after Jansen applied and performed only secretarial duties, while the committee assessed candidates under set criteria. The parties also dispute whether US was able to put forward another candidate for lead candidate.
Strong Lokaal Almere has also withdrawn from the provincial cooperation, while provincial councillor Lex Ruyssenaars left SLF for 50PLUS. Ruyssenaars said Jansen had previously agreed not to return to provincial politics after serving as an alderman; Jansen had given a different account, saying he had agreed to return. US also questioned the board’s links with Mooi Lelystad. The SLF board rejected the criticism, saying the integrity allegations lack convincing evidence and that US is refusing to accept a democratic vote. Van de Watering said SLF is talking with other Almere local parties about joining, but no agreement has been reached.
