Storm Austen was expected to reach North Holland on Friday, particularly affecting Texel and the northern part of the province. NH weatherman Jan Visser said winds could strengthen to force 8 or 9, with gusts of 80 to 90 kilometers per hour, although the forecast could still change. Rainfall of 10 to 15 millimeters was expected in most places.

Windy and rainy conditions were expected to continue through Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures around 13 degrees. Earlier forecasts had mentioned a possible wind force 8 and heavy precipitation; the later forecast raised the possible wind strength to 8 or 9. Variable weather was also expected to persist into early the following week.
