Ridouan Taghi’s video contact with his son was refused

Ridouan Taghi was reportedly unable to see his eldest son, Faissal, via a video connection. Although the Public Prosecution Service reportedly raised no objection, the State Secretary for Justice and Security rejected the request several times; the matter has now been referred to the Professional Committee.

Earlier in the week, the European Court of Human Rights reportedly asked questions about Taghi’s detention conditions.

European court questions Taghi's detention conditions

2 sources

The European Court of Human Rights has asked the Dutch Ministry of Justice about the detention conditions of Ridouan Taghi, who has been held in near-total isolation at the Extra Secure Institution in Vught for almost seven years. The questions followed 21 complaints lodged by Taghi and include whether his detention may breach Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights, particularly regarding contact with fellow prisoners and family. The Ministry of Justice and Security has not yet responded. A single report said Taghi's family contact is limited to monitored telephone calls at Dutch police stations, while calls from relatives abroad are not allowed and his correspondence is strictly checked.
