Physiotherapist Milou Schooneman from Grootebroek gave five tips for participants recovering after the Amsterdam Marathon. She advised them to keep moving gently, take sufficient rest, wear dry and warm clothes, and avoid drinking too much at once or consuming alcohol immediately after finishing.
Schooneman also recommended replenishing proteins and carbohydrates, while cautioning against relying on sugary foods. She advised participants to rebuild their activity gradually: walking for five to 15 minutes during the first three days, adding short periods of jogging after the fifth day if they felt well, and returning to a normal training schedule only after a week. People still experiencing significant stiffness or other problems after a week should consult a doctor or physiotherapist, she said.
