Expansion of supervision over asylum reception

21 sources

Asylum Minister Bart van den Brink placed 11 additional municipalities under enhanced supervision for failing to provide enough asylum reception places under the Distribution Act, bringing the national total from 63 to 74. The newly added municipalities are Best and Bergeijk in Noord-Brabant; Dantumadiel and Noardeast-Fryslân in Friesland; Elburg, Neder-Betuwe and West Betuwe in Gelderland; Castricum in Noord-Holland; and Gennep, Mook en Middelaar, and Roerdalen in Limburg. The municipalities must explain to the ministry how they will meet their obligations. If they fail to do so, the national government can ultimately take over the task of arranging reception locations at the municipality’s expense. Gennep and Mook en Middelaar are in talks with the ministry on follow-up steps, while Flevoland said it sees limited scope for extra places despite already exceeding its provincial target.
