Jillert Anema and Arjan Samplonius part ways at Team Royal A-ware

Skating coach Arjan Samplonius left Team Royal A-ware after concluding that his ambitions no longer aligned with those of team leader Jillert Anema. Samplonius, who had been seen as Anema's prospective successor, was at home during the season's first skating weekend and followed the World Cup Qualification Tournament at Thialf on television rather than from the ice.

Samplonius said Anema now considers the door closed, but that he experienced the split differently. Anema began a new Olympic cycle at age 71.
