Improving access to swimming lessons for children with disabilities
◆1 source
Swimming lessons for children with disabilities are not always accessible, particularly for families experiencing financial difficulties, the Mulier Institute said after conducting research. The lessons often cost more than regular swimming classes because children may need smaller groups of four or two pupils, or individual instruction, to reduce distractions and receive more attention. The institute said swimming instructors also need to know how to work with children with disabilities. Municipalities already offer financial schemes and concessions, but these are sometimes unclear and differ between municipalities, it said.
