Gerard Joling announced in an Instagram video that he is leaving De Toppers after 21 years. He said the decision had not been easy and that he had considered it for months.
He said he will focus on television work and his own concerts.

René Froger had stepped back from his duties after being diagnosed with myositis, putting The Toppers’ planned 2027 concerts under pressure. Gerard Joling discussed Froger’s health for the first time on NPO Radio 5. Joling said The Toppers are not finished, while commenting on the condition of Froger, his fellow group member and friend.

René Froger recently announced that he had been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and is focusing fully on his recovery. He remains closely involved with the Toppers. At the presentation of his biography, Frans Duijts said he would like to replace Froger if Froger called him.

Jonna Fraser, Jan Smit, Yves Berendse, Zoë Livay and Dutch National Ballet are scheduled to perform next year at the anniversary celebration of the Dutch Fund in the GelreDome in Arnhem. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima are also expected to attend the celebration on 30 January 2027.
