Families describe difficult search for youth support in Lelystad

◆1 source

Families in Lelystad have described long waiting times and difficult searches for youth support. One account concerned 17-year-old Jamie, who spoke with his mother about feeling that they were not taken seriously. A later account described how the parents of 10-year-old Rudy experienced the effort to obtain help as a constant struggle to be heard. Jamie, Rudy and their mothers were presented under pseudonyms because of the sensitivity of the subject. The problems in Lelystad’s youth care have not been resolved. Some parents do see signs of improvement, but the families’ accounts indicate that finding support remains difficult.
