Beverwijk Hindu temple dispute moves toward legal action

The Hindu community in Beverwijk has refused to leave its temple on Elbestraat after the municipality set October 1 as the departure deadline. The municipality wants to use the site for housing and has threatened to arrange an eviction. The community wants a permanent alternative location first and says it was previously promised the opportunity to buy the property.

The municipality says the site had already been designated for sale and that earlier investigations found the association unable to purchase it; a later review was overtaken by the Didam judgment. The community has hired a lawyer to pursue the alleged commitments, while former alderman Frans Koster supports its position. Beverwijk says a temporary-use agreement remains negotiable until next year to give the community more time to find another location. If no agreement is reached, the municipality intends to seek legal enforcement of the eviction.

Ukrainian families in Hoorn move with their pets

1 source

The so-called pet dispute in Hoorn was reported to have ended after five Ukrainian families agreed to move next weekend to a location on Maelson Street with their pets. Residents and the municipality were said to be satisfied with the solution. The families had to leave their current homes because they are being demolished for new construction. Pets were not allowed at the initially proposed location in an unused part of the town hall, leading to a prolonged dispute with the municipality. The issue prompted protests by political parties, a demonstration and a petition with 1,800 signatures. The families are now expected to move with their pets.
