Dispute over Rijkswaterstaat incident-recording software
◆2 sources
Rijkswaterstaat traffic controllers were in dispute with management over Dynac, new software for recording crashes and other motorway incidents. Controllers said the system was slow, unsafe and unworkable, and that it could delay Rijkswaterstaat staff and emergency services reaching crash scenes. The Zuid-Nederland traffic centre in Helmond was due to begin using it first, with compulsory use planned from the following week.
Rijkswaterstaat acknowledged concerns among staff but disputed the main criticism, saying emergency services would not arrive later. It said the software and network had been improved, most faults had been resolved, and remaining problems are expected to diminish as the system is further developed and staff become accustomed to it. Rijkswaterstaat also denied that costs had risen to €200 million from a €169 million budget, saying spending was €10 million below budget.
