Daouda Weidmann discusses his breakthrough at FC Twente

FC Twente midfielder Daouda Weidmann said his late winner against PSV had been replayed many times by his family, but that he had since moved on. The 23-year-old Frenchman has scored three goals and provided one assist this season, ahead of Twente’s Conference League match at Lincoln Red Imps.

Weidmann said he had twice considered leaving football, first during his time in Paris Saint-Germain’s academy and later after a long-term abdominal injury at RKC. He grew up in Paris and the surrounding banlieues, having also trained with PSG’s first team. He said playing for France remained his main international ambition and that returning to Paris Saint-Germain was another long-term goal.
