Cora van Vuren, 51, had initially been given three weeks to live but lived with cancer for eight and a half years. She died in the summer, leaving her 24-year-old daughter, Liza, grieving. Her family, including Liza and André, had been important to her, and she continued caring for others despite her illness.

Her death was described as a great sorrow for Liza, who recalled that her mother would no longer be on the couch when she came downstairs.
