Café Restaurant Amsterdam marks 30th anniversary

Café Restaurant Amsterdam, known as Cradam, marked 30 years since opening near the Westerpark on the site of a former drinking-water pumping station. The restaurant opened with 300 seats, a plan that had drawn doubts at the time, and is now run by four owners including Milène Hoving and Charles Hollenkamp.
The owners said the interior and menu have largely remained the same, apart from changes such as removing ashtrays, while adjustments have been made over time. They attributed the restaurant's continued popularity to its atmosphere and familiarity for generations of Amsterdam residents. A book about the restaurant was published this week.
