Shakira Janssen, 22, and her team at Kwakman bakery in Bussum have reportedly won the Beko award for North Holland’s best speculaas. Janssen, who has worked at the bakery for several years and became its head speculaas baker, said she was proud of the achievement.

The team said it uses buttermilk, bakes the speculaas thinly and adds care to the process.
