Brabant coalition parties criticize Enexis over grid congestion

Coalition parties in the province of North Brabant reportedly criticized grid operator Enexis, arguing that it is not doing enough to address the overloaded electricity grid and has therefore become part of the problem. The criticism was included in a proposal initiated by D66, calling on the provincial executive to raise the issue with Enexis as its shareholder. The proposal was supported by VVD, PRO, SP, D66, Local Brabant, CDA, Volt, 50PLUS and ChristenUnie-SGP.

The parties pointed to tens of thousands of homes and thousands of companies in Brabant that still cannot be connected, as well as difficulties with heat networks, energy hubs, temporary generation and shared contracts for large users. They called for measures including grid-conscious construction and charging, battery storage and temporary heating, and urged action when grid problems delay housing. Deputy for Energy Bas Maes acknowledged the concerns while noting that Enexis sometimes only delivers unwelcome news. Enexis had not responded at the time of publication.

West Brabant 150 kV grid connection project

2 sources

North Brabant province took over authority from the municipalities for a planned 150 kV high-voltage connection in West Brabant, aiming to use a single project procedure to speed its development. The underground link is to run through Woensdrecht, Bergen op Zoom and Steenbergen and connect to a high-voltage station yet to be built in Halsteren. The precise route has not yet been determined; studies and route proposals are planned, while residents remain able to participate, respond and submit views. The connection is intended to ease pressure on the electricity grid, and TenneT plans to put it into operation between 2034 and 2036.
