Belgian budget crisis and De Wever’s resignation offer

11 sources

Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever offered his government’s resignation to King Filip after the five coalition parties failed to agree on a budget and on €10 billion in savings. The negotiations had continued through the night without a deal. King Filip did not immediately accept the resignation and called on those involved to seek an agreement. He is due to consult the coalition party leaders from Tuesday through Thursday, and De Wever is to return to the king on Friday. It remains unclear whether a budget agreement can be reached or whether new elections will follow.
