Zeewolde proposes higher waste tax for 2027

The municipal executive of Zeewolde has proposed increasing the fixed waste tax to €347.32 per household in 2027, up by more than €27 from this year. The proposal says the municipality faces a €400,000 shortfall in waste collection revenue after residents reduced their residual waste by almost 60% since the introduction of the recycling tariff in early 2026. Because residents pay partly according to the number of container emptying operations or waste bags used, the municipality collected less than budgeted while fixed disposal costs continued.

To avoid passing the full shortfall on to residents, the municipal executive wants to cover €400,000 from the general reserve. The proposed increase would reflect national cost increases, including more expensive waste incineration and higher plastic and CO₂ taxes. Variable charges would remain €14.40 for emptying a 240-litre container and €1.80 for a 30-litre waste bag. The municipal council is due to make a final decision on the rates on 17 December.
