Zaanstad opposes preferred route for high-voltage line near Assendelft

The municipality of Zaanstad has submitted an opinion opposing the preferred route proposed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate for a new high-voltage line in northern North Holland. The route runs along Assendelft and Krommeniedijk. Zaanstad said it understood the need to address the overloaded electricity grid, but considered the regional impact insufficiently weighed against the speed of approving and building the line.

The municipality also questioned the justification for a planned high-voltage substation of about 17 hectares in the Assendelverpolder near Assendelft, citing the area's agricultural and recreational use and the presence of part of a UNESCO World Heritage site. Zaanstad does not intend to accept the route in its current form and said it would seek substantial compensation if it is selected.
