Stichting Snorhaar, a wildlife shelter in Utrecht, took in ten young hedgehogs that had become caught in fruit nets over one week. The animals were unable to free themselves, and several did not survive.

The shelter urged garden owners to remove fruit nets or position them so hedgehogs cannot become entangled.
