Yemeni government forces said they had launched a large-scale offensive against the Houthis, including attacks in the capital Sanaa and the northern province of Saada. The government army said it had begun an offensive to retake Sanaa, which it said has been under Houthi control for 12 years. One report said the operation was named Yemen Day Council and was intended to retake government institutions held by the Houthis. The army also claimed to have regained control of the area around the Bab al-Mandab Strait from the Houthis, who had taken it last month, according to the reports. A single report said that more than 70 people had been killed in the fighting.
