Ychelle Karst, 27, daughter of folk singer René Karst, gave birth to her first child at the end of last month. Her daughter, Lorèn, was born healthy, according to the account.

The birth came as the family continued to experience grief over René Karst’s unexpected death last November. Karst said the birth felt like a gift from above and that it confronted her with the reality of the loss.
