The World Street Fishing Championship began in Haarlem with 15 national teams fishing in the city’s canals and the Spaarne for predatory fish. Hungary, which won the title last year, is competing again. The first day started in Kenaupark, after which the teams spread out across the city; perch were among the fish caught.
The competition is organised by the Sportvisunie and Hengelsportvereniging Haarlem. Teams measure and photograph their catches before returning the fish to the water, while inspectors monitor compliance with the rules. The championship continues tomorrow at locations across Haarlem, with the winner expected to be known by the end of the afternoon.
