Trial over the deadly Tarwekamp explosion

15 sources

The trial of four men accused over the 7 December 2024 explosion at a bridal fashion shop on Tarwekamp in The Hague began. The blast caused part of the building to collapse and killed six residents; reports differ on whether four or five people were seriously injured. The proceedings are scheduled to last nine hearing days, with victims and relatives due to speak during the trial. Prosecutors allege that Moshtag B. ordered an attack on the shop of his former girlfriend after their relationship ended, and that three other men prepared or carried it out. In court, B. acknowledged seeking action against the shop but denied responsibility for the fatal explosion, saying he had been drawn into an arson plan and had expected a less serious fire. The other suspects also attributed responsibility to one another. The court heard that a plan initially described as stealing wedding dresses or damaging the shop had developed into arson using petrol and heavy fireworks. All allegations remain before the court.
