Wero is gradually taking the place of iDeal as a European payment system. According to Martina Weimert, Wero’s chief executive, the system offers more options and is intended to make Europe less dependent on US companies. It has also faced concerns about higher costs and criticism of buyer protection, which Weimert attributed to “fear of the unknown.”
