Water leak causes sinkholes in Rotterdam-Crooswijk

An underground water leak caused sinkholes in streets and pavements at Crooswijksestraat and Hendrikstraat in Rotterdam-Crooswijk. The leak washed away sand and flooded crawl spaces beneath homes. The streets were closed.

Evides shut off drinking water to several homes on Crooswijksestraat so the leak could be repaired. The crawl spaces must first be pumped dry, after which water service will be restored. Evides had not yet estimated how long the interruption would last; work was expected to be completed by the end of the afternoon. Residents were advised to turn off all taps to prevent possible leaks when the water supply resumes.
