The Waarderbrug between Haarlem-Noord and the Waarderpolder business park is scheduled to close to motorised traffic and cyclists from Monday 26 October for major maintenance. Traffic will be diverted via the Schoterbrug or Prinsenbrug. A ferry for pedestrians will operate from Monday to Saturday between 6:00 and 18:00. The bridge is expected to reopen at the end of April next year.
According to the municipality, the work is needed to keep the bridge reliable and will also prepare it for remote operation. Extra cameras and a fibre-optic connection will be installed. The traffic lights on Spaarndamseweg will be adjusted to improve cyclist traffic. The other larger bridges in Haarlem are also to be prepared for remote operation, while smaller bridges in the city centre will continue to be operated manually.
