Volunteers run The Shop supermarket in St. Maarten

The Shop, a small supermarket in the village house in St. Maarten, was set up as an alternative after what Ron Bruijn described as the disappearance of the last real supermarket in Saint Martin. Volunteers handle purchasing, staff planning, shelf-stocking, checkout and accounting. They say their aim is to keep the village viable.
