Stichting Present Assen organised a volunteer morning at Vanboeijen during the national Present DOE weeks and the Year of Volunteers. Vanboeijen supports and guides people with disabilities, and the initiative highlighted the contribution that a few hours of volunteering can make. About 1,400 people in Assen live with dementia, while more than 3,000 family members provide support. Assen is working toward a city where people with dementia can participate for as long as possible, with more support planned close to home in neighbourhoods and community centres. New training courses for carers are also being launched, and participants are being sought.
