Utrecht is not seeking a cheaper alternative to the planned tram connection to Rijnenburg, despite there being no national funding for it yet. The municipal executive says other solutions have been sufficiently investigated and that the Merwede line, extended to Rijnenburg, remains the best option. A financing outlook must be available by 2029 at the latest. Otherwise, the construction of tens of thousands of homes could be delayed or unable to proceed, the municipality says.
