US launches attack on Iran after midterm elections

The US military launched an attack on Iran, which President Donald Trump described as minor. Iranian state media, citing witnesses, reported that two missiles entered the Suza area on Qeshm Island, while Iran’s army said it had shot down an American MQ-9 Reaper drone over the island. No damage had been reported. Trump said Iranian anti-aircraft guns had been destroyed in an operation lasting about 15 minutes, or possibly five, but gave no further details.

Trump also said diplomatic talks with Iranian representatives about ending the war were going well. Separately, US Central Command offered up to $20 million for information about Iran’s nuclear programme, including facilities, equipment and personnel, with possible resettlement for informants.
