Urk allows oversized mobile homes to remain at holiday park

The municipality of Urk has agreed with owners of 11 mobile homes at the ’t Urkerbos holiday park that it will not enforce the current 60-square-metre limit for homes measuring up to 80 square metres. The owners had previously been notified that they were in violation, but the municipal executive concluded that requiring walls to be removed or homes to be replaced would be disproportionate and in some cases impractical.

The agreement is to be recorded in writing and will not apply if a mobile home is sold. In that case, the oversized home must be reduced or replaced with one meeting the applicable maximum area. The municipality says the size inspections are separate from its efforts to end permanent residence at the holiday park. Residents living there permanently are expected to leave by 2028.
