Two skydivers died after an in-air collision in California

Two skydivers, a 56-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man, died after colliding in midair during a jump near Los Angeles on Friday. Their parachutes became entangled about 40 feet above the ground as they prepared to land, and both fell and suffered severe injuries. They later died in hospital.

The company that organized the jump said it had initially proceeded smoothly and that both parachutes had opened. Authorities are investigating the accident. American media reported that both skydivers were highly experienced; the woman had been jumping since 2015 and had completed more than 1,700 jumps, while the man was a chief instructor at an indoor skydiving company.
