Two house explosions in Den Helder

Two homes in Den Helder were hit by explosions overnight, first on Brakkeveldweg at 3:50 a.m. and about two hours later at Louisehof. Both front doors were badly damaged, but no one was injured. Police suspect heavy fireworks caused the first blast. A 69-year-old resident of the Brakkeveldweg home said she did not know why fireworks had been placed outside her door and that she lived alone and did not have conflicts with anyone.

Police are looking for a boy dressed in black who was seen riding a fatbike shortly before the Louisehof explosion and is considered a suspect. Witnesses, dashcam footage and camera images from the area are being sought. It remains under investigation whether the two explosions were connected.
