Theatre maker and writer Laurens ten Den received the Twente Language Prize. The award was presented on Thursday evening in recognition of his connection to the Twente language; he had earlier also received the Johanna van Buren Prize.
Ten Den said that although fewer young people are raised with the regional language as their first language, it is not dying out. He said young people are increasingly learning it as a second language and that it remains part of their identity.
