Trial over the killing of Albert Visser

Thijmen V., 33, stood trial in Alkmaar over the death of his 67-year-old father, Albert Visser, in Heerhugowaard on 10 January 2021 and the concealment of his remains. Prosecutors allege that Visser was cut into 238 pieces, placed in 19 rubbish bags and kept in two freezers at the home for nearly four years. Police found the remains in November 2024.

V. told the court that he had been desperate and had made terrible mistakes. He also said he had loved his father deeply. His lawyer previously said V. acted in self-defence after his father attacked him with a knife; the prosecution alleges he killed his father. V.'s former girlfriend is a co-suspect, and her case is to be heard separately.
