Professional fishermen transferred more than 9,000 kilograms of adult European eels past the hydropower plant in Maurik, Gelderland, over the previous two months. The fishermen said this was a record for the site. They catch eels before they reach the dam locks and power plant, then release them on the other side to prevent injuries from the turbines; other fish caught during the operation are returned to the water.
