Swan Lake Remixed opens Amsterdam Dance Event

Swan Lake Remixed opened the Amsterdam Dance Event at the Gashouder, combining ballet, hip-hop and other dance styles with electronic music. The one-off production was created by Ernst Meisner of ISH Dance Collective and Marco Gerris of Dutch National Ballet.

The performance explored identity and the space people take up, with dancers including ballerinas in traditional white tutus alongside performers from other styles.

Amsterdam Dance Event’s 30th anniversary

7 sources

The Amsterdam Dance Event began its 30th edition on Wednesday, with electronic-music performances, conferences, panels, art projects and other events scheduled across Amsterdam through Sunday. The event, which began in 1996 as a networking meeting for a few hundred dance-industry professionals at De Balie, now brings together music professionals, DJs and audiences at more than 300 venues, including clubs, cultural institutions, cafés, shops and care homes. Events also take place outside central Amsterdam, including in Halfweg. The programme includes performances and installations involving the Dutch National Ballet and the Concertgebouw Orchestra, as well as activities intended to connect generations at care facilities. The art and culture programme has expanded to 72 locations, according to its curator. One report puts expected attendance at more than 400,000 visitors from dozens of countries, while an organiser said the event is already at its annual limit of 600,000 visitors and is not seeking to grow further but to involve more communities.
