National student protests in France

10 sources

French pupils held a national day of protest after days of unrest at schools. The French school association USL said demonstrators blocked 1,800 secondary schools, while hundreds of schools had previously been fully or partly closed because of security concerns or damage. Students, teachers, parents and trade unionists joined demonstrations, including marches in Paris and Lyon. Protesters cited large classes and staff shortages; some demonstrations led to confrontations with police.
