Deportation of Mennonite families from Suriname

Suriname proceeded with the deportation of 63 Mennonites from Bolivia and Mexico after a court ruled that any removal had to follow legal procedures. The group was accused of clearing trees without permission and establishing agricultural land in forested areas.

A single report said police and army units had earlier removed the families, including three babies and seven young children, from their homes in the Masonia area, about 150 kilometres southwest of Paramaribo.
