Storms and flooding in Catalonia
◆8 sources
Exceptional storms brought record rainfall, flooding and major road and rail disruption to Catalonia, particularly Barcelona and surrounding areas. Streets flooded and cars were swept or left stranded; dozens of people were rescued from their vehicles. A code red was in force along parts of the Catalan coast and throughout Sunday, while theatres and cinemas were closed, according to a single report. The reported death toll rose from at least two to three. One report said 192 millimetres of rain fell on Saturday, describing it as the heaviest rainfall in 20 years. A single report identified two of the earlier deaths as a person killed when a wall collapsed at a campsite in Tordera and a man who died after a low-lying garage flooded in Montornès.
