Twenty-two people with learning difficulties took part in a speed-dating afternoon at the Heppie Kookcafé in Almere Haven, hoping to make new friends or find a partner. The event was part of Dating & FRIENDS, an initiative of the ABRI Foundation, following workshops in which participants practiced making contact. Some found the conversations nerve-racking, while participant Ilias said he felt little stage fright and was enjoying the experience.
It was the third time the foundation had organized the event. Coordinator Wilma van Breemen said the first two editions had led to couples, although some relationships later ended. The participants will also go bowling, eat out and attend a closing party to get to know one another better. Whether this edition has resulted in a couple is not yet known.
